Promotion and Use of Digital Resources through Japan Search
Under the catchphrase "Make Digital Archives Blend into Everyday Life", Japan Search is a national platform that aggregates metadata from digital resources in various fields and provides an integrated search service, as well as APIs, and has a variety of functions in order to promote digital content usage. The National Diet Library, Japan (NDL) is in charge of operating the system and of collaborations with other organizations, in cooperation with many kinds of archives in Japan. Since its official release in August 2020, the number of databases linked to Japan Search has doubled, and it is currently linked to 170 databases from various institutions, including libraries, archives, museums, and art galleries, and in total more than 25 million metadata items are searchable. In particular, Japan Search has recently been focusing on collaborations with local institutions that have made numerous local materials available to the public.
Japan Search is engaged in various efforts to promote the utilization of digital content. On individual content pages, examples of source descriptions can be copied, and the conditions for secondary use of content are displayed in an easy-to-understand manner to help users use content with confidence. In addition, Japan Search has functions that allow users to easily curate content. One of these functions, "My Gallery," allows users to curate digital content and create personal digital exhibitions.
Japan Search is currently being used in a variety of fields, including education, museum curatorial training, and events for children, and in this presentation we will show examples of its use cases.
ジャパンサーチを用いたデジタルアーカイブの推進と利活用
ジャパンサーチは、「デジタルアーカイブを日常にする」をキャッチフレーズに掲げ、様々な分野のデジタルアーカイブのメタデータを集約し、統合的な検索サービスやAPI、コンテンツ利活用促進のための各種機能を提供するプラットフォームである。様々な分野のアーカイブ機関の連携・協力により、国立国会図書館がシステム運用や連携業務を担当している。2020年8月に正式版を公開して以降、ジャパンサーチと連携するデータベース数は約2倍に増え、現在、図書館、文書館、博物館などの機関の170のデータベースと連携し、合計で2500万件以上のメタデータが検索できる。特に、最近では、豊かな地域資料を公開している地方のアーカイブ機関との連携に力を入れている。
ジャパンサーチは、連携コンテンツの利活用促進のため、様々な工夫を行っている。出典の記載例をコピーできるようにしたり、コンテンツの二次利用条件を分かりやすく表示したりして、ユーザが安心してコンテンツを利用できるよう支援している。また、ジャパンサーチは、ユーザが簡単にコンテンツをキュレーションできる機能を実装している。その機能の一つである「マイギャラリー」では、ユーザがコンテンツを編集し、電子展覧会を作成することができる。
ジャパンサーチは、現在、教育、博物館の学芸員実習、子ども向けイベントなど幅広い場面で活用されており、その利用事例も紹介する。
